Affiliate Guide to Driving
Visitors to Your Website

After generating useful content, the next big challenge for you as a site owner or a webmaster is to drive visitors to your website.

Your beautiful design and engaging content amount to nothing if you are not able to drive visitors in to your website.

This is where search engines come in. In the United States alone, around 10 billion searches are done each month. That is why you'll notice that a big chunk of website traffic usually comes from search engines.

And to get indexed in top search engine result pages your site must target particular key words and be optimized for search engines.

Keep in mind that content is king. If your content is useful to site visitors, chances are your pages will rank well on search engines.

Remember that it is very easy to get banned, penalized or even blacklisted from search engines if you copy content and use techniques such as hidden texts, invisible links or pages that purposely redirect to merchants.

It is also worthwhile to note that search engine algorithm constantly change. So always be on the lookout for your competitor's strategies.

And the only way sure way to land on the first page of search engine results pages is thru a paid advertisement. So stay away from schemes that guarantee page one results in no time.

Here are more ways to help drive visitors to your website:

Get listed on Web Directories

Web directories or link directories are the web's version of telephone yellow pages. These sites specialize in categorizing links and linking to other web sites.

Web directories are not a search engines. They do not display web pages based on keywords. Instead, directories lists web sites by category and subcategory. Most web directory entries are not found by web crawlers but by humans.

The categorization is usually based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only a few categories. Web directories often allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness.

So get listed on web directories.

Online Newsletters

Another great way of driving visitors to your website is through online newsletters.

Again, make sure that your newsletter has useful content. Do NOT add affiliate links to your newsletter. Just link to your website. Email programs can easily detect affiliate links and will automatically mark your newsletter as spam. A simple link to the page or content you are trying to promote will do.

Get Linked

Get your website linked from other website by link exchanges. Have a links page in your website and add other website's link and their site description. Contact the webmaster of the other websites and ask them to include your site in their links page too.

However, be sure to exchange links with sites that have related theme or content only. Once you've exchanged links, check the other site from time to time if the link back to your site is still there. If for some reason, the link to your site has been removed, remind the webmaster to put it back up. Also, check your site's own links page for sites that have shut down and remove their links immediately.

Post in Forums

Posting in online forums is another great way to drive traffic to your website. It's free. It's interactive. And it's easy.

But don't make posts just for the sake of providing links to your website. Create engaging topics, provide useful tips, have inviting comments to get forum users to click through your site. This way, you'll be able to build a good reputation for your website.

Remember, self promotion is not allowed in many online forums. Adding affiliate links will also not be tolerated. Your forum account can get suspended, or worse you can get banned from the forum.

Socialize on Social Networks

Social Networks are the "IN" thing today. Billions of people the world over are hooked on facebook and twitter, etc. And it is a good place to build a good online reputation.

Comment on Blogs

Blogs are one of the biggest trends today. Almost everyone has a blog. And the best part of it, you can post your own opinions!

Posting a comment on a blog may not necessarily increase your link popularity on search engines, but if you post an engaging comment, you can get the attention of other blog readers and promote your own site.

Remember to post only on blogs that are directly related to your website.

Off Line promotion

Every marketing strategy that works in the real world can be used to promote a web site. If you have a budget, you can place ads in newspapers or magazines. You can have TV and radio commercials. You can have billboards and flyers.

But if you're on a tight budget, having your domain name on your business card will help.
